The Start Your Lab team is responsible for building the core platform (including this website) and maintaining official guides, tutorials, and templates offered across the platform.

Ari Dyckovsky

Ari is the creator and core maintainer of Start Your Lab. He is also an incoming Ph.D. student in Social Psychology and a Centennial Fellow at Princeton University (starting Fall 2021). Ari's research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence to facilitate collective problem-solving and collaborative processes on a global scale. With a breadth of experiences across physics, mathematics, finance, and software, he hopes to bring modern tools to the forefront of the social sciences, with a nod toward increased interdisciplinary work between fields and industries.
Peter Sokol-Hessner's avatar

Peter Sokol-Hessner

Peter is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Denver and the director of the Sokol-Hessner Lab. He received his Ph.D. from New York University, and did postdoctoral fellowships at the California Institute of Technology and New York University. Peter's research focuses on the intersection between emotion and decision-making, leveraging tools and perspectives from psychology, economics, and neuroscience to examine the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying valuation and choice. His work entails computational analysis of behavior and physiology (including brain imaging). Learn more on his lab's website.

Industry advisors#

The active team at Start Your Lab works with a small group of advisors from the private sector. Each of our advisors was selected both for their interest in seeing academic research teams succeed and their expertise with tools most relevant to researchers. Their advice informs many of the best practices that we recommend in our documentation.

Austin is currently a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Fellow and has previously worked with both startups and larger companies like Apple and Microsoft. He enjoys working across the technology stack, from UIs to APIs, and always builds with users in mind. Austin holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University with a concentration in Human-Computer Interaction.

Ayush Sood

Ayush currently runs the developer ecosystem at Facebook as an Engineering Manager. He previously co-founded a couple of companies in the data infrastructure space, and has built products with teams at Palantir and Dropbox. Ayush received his B.S. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
